The AAPM Summer School, established in 1969, addresses the growing need for continuing education within the association. It has since become a cornerstone in fulfilling both the short- and long-term educational goals of AAPM while also generating surplus funds that benefit the organization.

Each year, the Summer School strives to:

  • Bridge the gap between research and clinical practice.
  • Provide Continuing Education Credits (e.g., MPCEC).
  • Publish the proceedings of the school.
  • Offer tutorial and small-group workshop experiences led by field experts.
  • Foster an environment that encourages collaboration between early-career and experienced medical physicists, promoting communication and goodwill.

Programs are hosted at colleges or universities, with most attendees, including Program Directors and Faculty, staying in on-campus dorm-style accommodations. This setting fosters an open and collegial atmosphere for discussion and networking.

Review Process

The AAPM Summer School Subcommittee will carefully evaluate all complete proposals. Final selection of the topic, content, program directors, and speakers will be determined based on several factors, including the quality of the submission and its relevance to clinical practice. Please note that topics repeating or closely resembling those from previous years will not be selected. The Subcommittee reserves the right to combine or reclassify proposals as needed.
