Things to Do in Denver

Make the most of your time in the Mile High City. Denver offers world-class dining, outdoor adventure, arts, culture, and science, much of it within easy reach of the Hyatt Regency Denver.

Neighborhoods Worth Exploring

Several of Denver's most vibrant neighborhoods are within walking distance or a short ride from the hotel.

16th Street Mall

2 min walk from hotel

A mile-long pedestrian promenade running through the center of downtown Denver. Lined with shops, restaurants, street performers, and a free shuttle bus that runs end-to-end. A great place to stretch your legs between sessions.

Fully pedestrianized and flat. The free 16th Street Mall shuttle is wheelchair accessible.

Larimer Square

5 min walk from hotel

Denver's oldest and most celebrated block, lined with historic Victorian buildings, independently owned restaurants, boutiques, and rooftop bars. A great first stop for dinner or an evening out.

Level sidewalks and ramps throughout; most venues are step-free at entrance.

The Golden Triangle

5–10 min walk from hotel

Denver's museum district, home to the Denver Art Museum, History Colorado Center, and the Clyfford Still Museum. A walkable cluster of world-class institutions tucked between the Capitol and downtown.

Fully paved, ADA-accessible streetscapes throughout the district.

Science & Nature

Denver is home to some outstanding science institutions, a natural fit for a room full of medical physicists.

Denver Museum of Nature & Science

~15 min ride

One of the largest natural history museums in the United States. Highlights include a world-class gem and mineral collection, a space sciences gallery, ancient Egypt exhibits, and the Gates Planetarium, which runs immersive dome shows on topics ranging from black holes to aurora borealis. The IMAX theater is also on-site. Excellent for adults with deep collections and thoughtful scientific curation.

Denver Botanic Gardens

~15 min ride

A stunning 24-acre garden in the heart of Capitol Hill, with collections spanning alpine tundra, tropical cloud forest, and high-desert ecosystems. In April, tulips and early spring plantings are in full bloom. The horticultural science on display is exceptional; the Chatfield Farms satellite campus, a short drive away, offers a wilder experience.

Most garden paths are paved and accessible. Some uneven terrain in naturalized areas; map indicates accessible routes. Wheelchairs available at the entrance.

Butterfly Pavilion

~25 min ride

America's first standalone invertebrate zoo and a surprisingly compelling experience for science-minded adults. Walk through a tropical conservatory with free-flying butterflies, explore arthropod exhibits with live tarantulas and giant millipedes, and engage with hands-on invertebrate science. Unusual and genuinely fascinating if you're curious about biology.

Fully ADA accessible. All pathways through the conservatory are paved and level; accessible restrooms available.

National Renewable Energy Laboratory Visitor Center

~30 min ride

NREL (the U.S. Department of Energy's primary renewable energy research lab) operates a free public visitor center in Golden, CO. Exhibits cover solar, wind, hydrogen, and grid technology, with live energy production data from the campus on display. A uniquely interesting stop for anyone working in the physical sciences or with an interest in energy systems.

Fully accessible visitor center. Contact NREL in advance for any specific accommodation needs.

Dining & Drinks

Denver has evolved into one of the best food cities in the West, and the best news for meeting attendees is that several standout options are right outside your door. Whether you are wrapping up a long session day or planning a dinner with colleagues, you don't need to go far.

Denver Milk Market

5 min walk

A sprawling food hall in the historic Dairy Block, featuring 16 local concepts under one roof, from fresh pasta and wood-fired pizza to craft cocktails and gelato. One of the easiest dinner plans for a group — everyone can order what they want and settle in at shared tables. Open late on weekends.

Fully accessible entrance and interior. Level floors throughout the food hall.

Elway's Downtown

5 min walk

Denver's most storied steakhouse, located in the Ritz-Carlton just steps from the hotel. Named for Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway, this is the go-to for a celebratory dinner or an impressive meal with colleagues. Exceptional dry-aged steaks, a strong Colorado wine list, and a lively but refined atmosphere. Reservations recommended.

Fully accessible entrance through the Ritz-Carlton lobby. Accessible seating available; contact the restaurant in advance.

Larimer Square Restaurants

5 min walk

Denver's most celebrated dining block sits five minutes from the hotel and is built for an evening out. Among the highlights: Rioja (James Beard-nominated Mediterranean), Bistro Vendome (classic French), and Guard and Grace (upscale steakhouse with a great bar). Larimer Square is the right answer when someone asks where to go for dinner in Denver.

Level sidewalks throughout; most individual restaurants have step-free entrances. Call ahead to confirm for specific venues.

Snooze, an A.M. Eatery

A Denver institution for breakfast and brunch. Known for inventive pancake flights and egg benedicts with a twist. Multiple downtown locations make this a reliable morning option before a full day of sessions. Arrive early on weekends or expect a wait.

Step-free entrance; accessible seating available. Contact the specific location to confirm.

Arts & Culture

Denver Art Museum

Fully ADA accessible. Elevator access to all floors; interactive exhibits designed for broad accessibility.

Red Rocks Amphitheatre

~40 min from hotel

One of the most famous outdoor venues in the world, carved into natural red sandstone formations in the foothills west of Denver. Even without a concert, the park is open daily for hiking and sightseeing, with stunning views of the plains from 6,450 feet elevation.

The venue and visitor center are ADA accessible. Accessible parking and seating areas available. Note: the surrounding hiking trails are rugged and not accessible. Contact the park directly for details.

Outdoors & Recreation

Denver sits at 5,280 feet (the exact elevation of one mile above sea level) at the foot of the Rocky Mountains. April is an excellent time to explore before summer crowds arrive.

Cherry Creek Trail

10 min walk to trailhead

A paved, multi-use trail running 40+ miles along Cherry Creek from downtown Denver through the suburbs. The downtown section is perfect for a morning run or a rented bike ride, winding through Confluence Park and along the creek to Cherry Creek North.

The trail is paved and accessible throughout. Handrails are present at bridges; surfaces are smooth and maintained.

City Park

~15 min ride

Denver's largest city park, home to the Denver Zoo, Denver Museum of Nature and Science, two lakes, and panoramic views of the Front Range on clear days. A peaceful escape from downtown, ideal for an early morning run or a weekend afternoon.

Main park paths are paved and accessible. The Denver Zoo and DMNS within the park are both fully ADA accessible.

Rocky Mountain National Park

~1.5 hrs from hotel

A bucket-list destination for those with a free day. More than 350 miles of trails range from easy lakeside walks to alpine summit routes. In April, the lower elevations are typically snow-free and wildflower season begins.

Several accessible trails and overlooks are available, including the Sprague Lake Accessible Trail (0.5 mile loop, fully paved). Accessible facilities at major visitor centers. An Access Pass is available free to U.S. residents with permanent disabilities.

Ski Resorts

1.5–2 hrs from hotel

April skiing in Colorado is among the best in the country. Breckenridge, Vail, Keystone, and Arapahoe Basin are all within a 90-minute drive. Conditions are typically excellent through mid-April with spring corn snow.

Most major Colorado ski resorts offer adaptive skiing programs. Vail and Breckenridge both have dedicated adaptive sport centers; contact them directly to arrange equipment and instruction.

Getting Around Denver

Downtown is walkable

Most of the dining, arts, and entertainment near the meeting are within a 10–15 minute walk of the Hyatt Regency Denver. Downtown sidewalks are flat, wide, and generally well-maintained.

RTD Light Rail & Bus

Denver's Regional Transportation District (RTD) operates light rail and bus lines throughout the metro area. All RTD buses and rail vehicles are ADA accessible with low floors, ramps, and priority seating.

Denver B-Cycle

Denver's bike share system has docking stations throughout downtown and along the Cherry Creek Trail. Day passes are available through the app, a great way to explore the trail network.

Rideshare

Uber and Lyft are widely available throughout Denver. Both apps offer WAV (wheelchair-accessible vehicle) options; select "Uber WAV" or "Lyft Accessible" when booking.

Sunscreen at altitude

Denver receives intense UV radiation year-round due to its elevation and more than 300 sunny days annually. Apply sunscreen even on overcast spring days, as UV exposure is significantly higher than at sea level.

Stay hydrated

Denver's climate is semi-arid, and the combination of altitude and low humidity can lead to faster dehydration than visitors expect. Carry water and drink more than you think you need.
